Gorgonzola Piccante (gor-gohn-ZOH-lah pick-AHN-teh) has a pungent aroma and a strong and spicy flavour with a pleasant tang and fruity, sweet finish. ‘Piccante’ means ‘spicy’ and this version of the famous Italian blue is a much denser, fuller-bodied cheese than its cousin, Gorgonzola Dolce.

A little history about Gorgonzola

Gorgonzola originates from the village of the same name where cows once rested after returning from their annual grazing on the rich summer pastures of the Italian Alps. The area’s lush green pastures and clean mountain air means the cows produce high-quality milk, perfect for making cheese. Traditional techniques for making Gorgonzola Piccante can be traced back to at least the 10th Century.

Ciresa's history began almost 100 years ago, in 1927, founded by Giovanni Ciresa, and is now a third-generation company.
Giovani, the grand father, started his journey by sourcing cheese from the Valsassina area. Then, when the business became successful, he built a cave to age the selected cheese.
After the success of the Giovanni, his sons Vittorio and Alfredo took over the company and started producing the cheese themselves.
Vitorrio and Alfredo now help both of their children who took over a well-known Gorgonzola factory to expand their selection with a range of blue cheese.*DOC = Denominazione di Origine Controllata (Controlled Designation of Origin
